What its like coming to CAMHS

"It's a good place to be for getting help. You get to talk about your problems. They are very caring and listen to what you have to say."

"I really looked forward to my sessions each week and left feeling like I'd accomplished something. I've now got the confidence to try new foods and I've made so much progress!"

"Don't be scared about talking to someone about your issues/problems, sometimes talking to people outside of the family / friend circle can really help. The people here will not judge you. They listen to you then pull out certain pieces of information that will help you talk and get through the issues you are having. If you're not happy with the person they have given you, you can ask to see a different one. Here at CAMHS, your safety and wellbeing is their number one priority. You have nothing to fear here."
Male, aged 18

"At first it's frightening meeting the person who will be helping you but when you find the person you feel comfortable with you find you can open up. Everyone is friendly and understanding and they  will always put your best interests first, it's a  very calm relaxed environment!"

"CAMHS has been a part of my life for quite some time now and they've helped me when I thought I couldn't be helped."
Female, aged 16

"I don't know what I can say about CAMHS other than this, they saved my life. For years I was struggling with this eating disorder that I didn't even know I had. I had seen countless dieticians and counsellors but none of those ever managed to help me as much as my therapist at CAMHS did. Not only did she help me with my disorder, but she was also there for me during a particularly low point in my life, a point so dark I had considered taking my own life. CAMHS was the best thing that ever happened to me and I would hate to think about what would have happened if I hadn't attended my sessions there. I have come such a long way since my first session, I'm not quite there just yet but CAMHS has helped me to get this far, to a point where I no longer feel the need to binge, I still get the urge but they've helped me to recognise that I don't need food to help me cope. I can't put into words how grateful I am for their help, and the endless support and encouragement from my therapist. To me, she will always be the woman who saved my life and I will never forget everything that she's done for me."
